Ambon bombing suspect dies

JAKARTA: One of four suspects in the recent Ambon market blast died at a police hospital on Tuesday from bullet wounds suffered while trying to evade arrest.

National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Saud Usman Nasution said the dead suspect, identified only as Aden, was shot by Maluku Police as they attempted to arrest him on Friday at his house in Ketapang, West Seram Island.

"The suspect was seriously injured and it took a long time to bring him from Ketapang to the Ambon police headquarters, so he lost a lot of blood and died this morning," Saud said.

With the death of Aden, the police could only continue questioning the remaining three suspects -- Basri Kaliki, Lulu Kalderan and Kasim -- over the blast at the Mardika market last week, which injured nine people.

The police are still looking for three other suspects believed to have masterminded the bombing. They were identified only by their initials as ARS, JBR and WL. --JP.
