Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Tunisia, Zuhairi Misrawi, has urged Indonesian students in Tunisia to build the civilisation of the Motherland. “We ask Indonesian students in Tunisia to study earnestly and engage in the grand movement, such as Muhammadiyah, which has greatly contributed to Indonesia’s independence and progress. Bung Karno was a Muhammadiyah cadre; his services to Indonesian civilisation are immense,” Zuhairi said in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday. The Indonesian Students’ Association (PPI) Tunisia and the Special Branch Leadership of Muhammadiyah (PCIM) Tunisia held a dialogue with UMY Rector Achmad Nurmandi and the Central Leadership delegation of Muhammadiyah. At the event, Zuhairi stated that education is a pillar of a nation’s progress and that the dialogue would enhance insights into building Indonesian civilisation. Meanwhile, Achmad Nurmandi emphasised the importance of Indonesian students and Muhammadiyah cadres studying contemporary general sciences to play an active role in Indonesian and global contexts. “The majority of students in Tunisia do not only study religious sciences, but also need to delve into general sciences, such as management, digital technology, humanities, and others, to actively contribute in Indonesian and global contexts,” Achmad said. Also present at the event were UMY Vice Rector Zuly Qadir, Secretary Bachtiar Dwi Kurniawan, and Higher Education Council Velandani Prakoso.
