Ambassador Reveals Iran's Secret to Resilience Against the West and Zionists Since the 1979 Revolution
Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, YM Mohammad Boroujerdi, has revealed the recipe behind his country’s resilience in facing pressures from the Western world. Since 1979, Iran has transformed from a kingdom led by the Shah into an Islamic Republic.
Imam Khomeini, the central figure of the 1979 Iranian Islamic Revolution, was a leader with a far-sighted vision. Boroujerdi recounted that the figure, who passed away on 3 June 1989, placed unity and the strengthening of public education as the two main pillars for building the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Boroujerdi described the state of Iran before the Revolution as generally backward, particularly in the education sector. The literacy rate during the Shah’s rule was only around 30 percent. Meanwhile, the remaining 70 percent consisted of illiterate people. The situation was even more concerning for Iranian women.
“After the victory of the 1979 Iranian Islamic Revolution, our country was built as a republic that encompasses all groups within Islam,” said Boroujerdi during a public lecture at As-Syafi’iyah Islamic University, Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
In Imam Khomeini’s view, the awakening of the Muslim ummah needs to be supported by mastery of science and technology (iptek). This has been proven in Iran.
“He (Imam Khomeini) emphasised the importance of deepening science and technology, especially through the education sector,” said Boroujerdi.
The unity of the Muslim ummah and the ability to master iptek have become a terrifying spectre for Israel. Boroujerdi said that since the 1979 Revolution, Western countries and Zionists have continuously tried to weaken Iran. This has been done in various ways, from propaganda labelling the Revolution as a sectarian movement to armed conflicts that lasted for eight years.
“They carried out propaganda to convey that the Iranian Islamic Revolution is a Shia revolution, not an Islamic revolution, and gave certain labels or stamps to the Islamic movement from the people,” stated Boroujerdi.
