Ambassador: Ramadan Study Day strengthens Indonesia-Tunisia relations
Jakarta — Indonesia’s Ambassador to Tunisia, Zuhairi Misrawi, has stated that the Ramadan Study Day organised by the Faculty of Ushuluddin at Tunisia’s Ez-Zitouna University in partnership with the General Union of Tunisian Students strengthens relations between Indonesia and Tunisia.
“The Ramadan Study Day holds strategic value in tightening social and intellectual relations between Indonesia and Tunisia,” Zuhairi said in his remarks at the event, which took place at the Al-Aqsha campus of the Faculty of Ushuluddin at Ez-Zitouna University on Saturday, 28 February.
Zuhairi emphasised that Ramadan represents a school of life that cultivates discipline, patience, honesty, and social empathy. He stressed that the positive habits developed during Ramadan—such as time management, increased worship, sharing with others, and strengthening bonds of kinship—must be maintained and continued after the holy month concludes.
The joint activity, which brought together Tunisian academics and Indonesian students, is viewed as a concrete bridge of friendship that extends beyond diplomatic aspects to encompass cultural and spiritual dimensions. The event was considered a special occasion combining scholarly, spiritual, and interpersonal elements whilst strengthening bonds of brotherhood across nations.
The diverse cultural, linguistic, and customary atmospheres from various countries blended together, further reinforcing the spirit of struggle and spirituality among diaspora individuals from different nations.
The Ramadan Study Day opened with Quranic recitation, remarks from academics and university figures, including Ez-Zitouna University Rector Dr Abdul Latif Bouazizi, and Hadi Tamimy, a representative lecturer from Ez-Zitouna University. In his remarks, Tamimy spoke of Ramadan’s virtue as a means of shaping individual character for the better. He also emphasised the importance of the event as a vehicle for unity among diaspora individuals from various countries.
