Jakarta (ANTARA) - Pakistan’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri, stated that Pakistan regards the Palestinian issue as highly important, asserting that the two-state solution represents a forward step in resolving the Palestine-Israel conflict.

“We also believe that the Palestinian state needs to have sustainable borders and the borders prior to 1967. So, that is very important,” said Ambassador Chaudhri in an exclusive interview with ANTARA in Jakarta on Saturday.

Ambassador Chaudhri stated that an unjust solution to the Palestine-Israel conflict would not last long, while reaffirming Pakistan’s consistent support for the Palestinian struggle and pushing for a just resolution.

In addition, he said that Pakistan joined the Board of Peace (BoP) in the hope that it could contribute to peace in the region and help secure the rights of the Palestinian people.

Indonesia will lead the D-8 chairmanship for the 2026-2027 period under the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equality, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity,” with Pakistan as one of the D-8 member countries.

The D-8 is an economic cooperation organisation of developing countries comprising Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey. Azerbaijan became the newest member to join the D-8 in December 2024.

Indonesia and Pakistan have maintained diplomatic relations since April 1950 and commemorated 75 years of diplomatic relations in 2025. Both countries are founding members of the 1955 Bandung Asian-African Conference (KAA) alongside India, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.

Indonesia and Pakistan have also joined the Board of Peace (BoP), established by US President Donald Trump in January 2026.

Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono expressed confidence that the establishment of the BoP is a concrete step that has long been awaited in overseeing the Palestinian peace process.

The participation of countries joining the BoP is expected to ensure that all actions remain oriented towards Palestinian independence and the realisation of the two-state solution.
