Ambassador Kartini Appreciates Role of Tokyo Indonesian School

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ambassador to Japan Nurmala Kartini Sjahrir has expressed appreciation for the role of the Tokyo Indonesian School (SIT) in supporting the education of Indonesian children in the East Asian country.

Ambassador Kartini conveyed her appreciation to the teachers, students, and the entire SIT academic community, including the School Committee and parents who have contributed to academic activities, during the school’s graduation or Purnawidya ceremony.

“Purnawidya Day is a moment to be grateful for the long journey that has been travelled. Make the educational opportunity at the previous level a valuable life experience,” said Ambassador Kartini in a written statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo on Thursday.

“This Purnawidya event is not the end point of the educational process. On the contrary, it is the beginning of the next struggle,” she added.

In the event themed “Cakrawala Ilmu, Jejak Mendunia” (Horizon of Knowledge, Global Footprints), a total of 47 students from kindergarten to high school levels were declared graduates from SIT.

The Education Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Amzul Rifin, who also serves as Acting Head of SIT, explained that the number of students at the school has continued to increase year on year.

From 165 students in the previous academic year, the number grew to 174 students at the start of the 2025/2026 Academic Year, reaching 187 students by May 2026.

According to Amzul, this increase demonstrates the growing public trust in SIT.

“Throughout this academic year, SIT has continuously strived to align various academic and non-academic practices with policies from the Indonesian Ministry of Education,” he said.

In the area of leadership development, the school has implemented student organisation regeneration and flag ceremony officers not only at the high school level but also at the junior high school level, so that opportunities to learn leadership can be obtained from an early age.

Additionally, SIT has formed a Violence Prevention and Handling Team (TPPK) within the school environment involving elements of teachers and students to create a safe learning environment.

In the academic field, the Academic Ability Test results for elementary, junior high, and high school students were above both the national average and the average of Indonesian Schools Abroad.

“Thank you to all parents, the school committee, school partners, teachers, education staff, and of course the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo who have supported the provision of education at SIT,” said Amzul.

Amzul further added that in the field of student affairs and achievements, SIT students have shown proud accomplishments. Among them, at the National Science Olympiad, one student succeeded in becoming a semifinalist in the Astronomy field.

Meanwhile, at the international and local Japanese level, students also achieved accolades, including at the Meguro English Speech Contest with the Best Delivery award.

In competitions among Indonesian Schools Abroad, SIT managed to win various awards and placed itself in the top three ranks in several competition branches, including short story writing, mathematics olympiad, and robotics.

Chairperson of the School Committee, Merry Astrid Indriasari, in her speech expressed the hope that the students would grow into an innovative and creative generation, always maintain an attitude of sportsmanship, and possess good character to appreciate the process and respect differences as provisions for achieving success.
