Ambassador hopes US-Iran mediation efforts will bear fruit

Tehran (ANTARA) - Iran hopes that efforts to mediate the conflict with the United States and Israel will bear fruit, said Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, on Wednesday. On Tuesday, the New York Times, citing anonymous officials, reported that Washington had submitted a 15-point plan to Iran to address the Middle East conflict amid the growing impact of escalation on the US economy. “Friendship efforts from these countries do not mean that negotiations between Iran and the United States are underway, but only indicate attempts to build a foundation for dialogue between Tehran and Washington.” “We hope that efforts aimed at ending the war imposed on Iran will bear fruit,” the ambassador told the IRNA news agency without specifying the countries in question. On Tuesday, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that his country is ready to host talks between the United States and Iran aimed at resolving the current conflict. The day before, President Donald Trump said that the US and Iran had held very positive and productive talks over the past two days. Trump claimed to have instructed the Pentagon to delay attacks on Iranian energy infrastructure for five days. On 28 February, the US and Israel launched attacks on targets in Iran, including in Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran then retaliated with strikes on Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
