Jakarta (ANTARA) - Ukraine is ready to pursue peace and the European Union supports every credible effort aligned with the UN Charter, EU Ambassador to Indonesia Denis Chaibi said on Monday (23/2).

“Peace must be just and lasting. This is very important for the European Union, and this is our stance towards Ukraine — politically, economically, militarily, and diplomatically,” Chaibi said in Jakarta.

He made the remarks at the opening of the photo exhibition “Four Years of Resilience”, organised by the Embassy of Ukraine from 23 to 27 February at Dialogue Kemang, Jakarta.

According to Chaibi, the exhibition depicts not only war but also the risks that all countries face, including the EU and Indonesia.

He affirmed that the international commitment to peace and justice in Palestine must equally apply to Ukraine, as part of the protection of civilians and the enforcement of international law.

Ukraine’s Chargé d’Affaires ad Interim Yevhenia Shynkarenko said her country is fighting for sovereignty and freedom of navigation in the Black Sea, as well as for territory recognised under international law.

“At present, global stability depends on whether these principles are upheld. Ukraine has resilience. Ukraine chooses justice. We choose peace rooted in law,” she said.

She stressed that sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable.

“There is no reward when civilians are harmed or killed. Sovereignty must be unconditional. International law must take precedence over violence. Aggression must not be rewarded,” she said.

Shynkarenko noted that the past four years have shown Ukraine is not isolated but enjoys broad support.

Ukraine is marking four years since Russia’s invasion, which began on 24 February 2022.
