Jakarta (ANTARA) - Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, stated that the dynamics of the war between the United States-Israel and Iran, along with its global impacts, have the potential to change the world’s geopolitical order. “This war affects numerous international developments and brings significant changes to global geopolitics,” said Boroujerdi during his public lecture at Prof. Dr. Moestopo University (Beragama) in Jakarta on Wednesday. He said that the conflict’s dynamics might compel the international community to redefine the classification of superpowers and “middle power” countries, as well as drive changes in international norms, principles, and rules. This conflict, he added, demonstrates that multilateral organisations have failed to act to end the war and achieve peace for Iran and the countries in its region. Moreover, from Iran’s perspective, the US and Israel have violated various international rules and norms in their attacks on Iran, which only stopped after a ceasefire, said Ambassador Boroujerdi. “Various international organisations will not be able to continue their activities as usual, like the pre-war situation; significant changes will certainly be needed,” he said. The Iranian Ambassador mentioned that one international institution in dire need of reform is the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), whose permanent membership composition still reflects the power of the World War II victors more than 80 years ago. He regretted that the UNSC did not promptly call for an end to the war when the US-Israel attacked Iran on 28 February, but instead only condemned Iran for launching retaliatory strikes against Israel and US military assets in the region. “The UNSC must be reformed so that it can truly carry out its duties, namely guaranteeing security, preventing war, or ending war,” he said. Boroujerdi also highlighted the need for unity among developing countries to push for UNSC reform to make it more representative of the world’s aspirations. “In the effort to reform the Security Council, new forces among ‘middle powers’ have a very determining position,” said the Iranian Ambassador.
