Jakarta (ANTARA) - Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has emphasised that the peace his country aspires to after its war with the United States and Israel is a permanent, guaranteed peace, not a superficial one that could be violated again.

Speaking after delivering a public lecture at Prof. Dr. Moestopo University (Beragama) in Jakarta on Wednesday, the ambassador stated that the peace Iran needs now is guaranteed, comprehensive, and ends the war.

“Guaranteed means the opposing side will not gather strength to attack Iran again,” said Ambassador Boroujerdi.

Comprehensive, he explained, means the peace achieved covers the entire territory of Iran and neighbouring countries in the Middle East region, especially Lebanon, which has also been attacked by Israel.

The peace agreement with the United States is also hoped to be permanent and truly mark the end of all forms of violence and attacks in Iranian territory and its surroundings.

Furthermore, the Iranian Ambassador expressed hope that the peace agreement reached with the United States would be equitable and mutually respectful between both parties.

Tehran also demands that its right to maintain existing military strength and the right to utilise various technologies for peaceful purposes, including nuclear technology, be guaranteed.

“We demand a peace that respects our right to use various technologies for peaceful purposes,” said the Iranian Ambassador.

In the latest developments, the Iranian government has proposed five conditions to the US as a step towards “rebuilding trust” before they are willing to resume negotiations, according to a report by Fars News Agency on Tuesday (12/5).

The five demands are: ending the war on all fronts, particularly in Lebanon; lifting sanctions; releasing Iran’s frozen assets; compensation for war damages; and recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated following the joint US and Israeli attack on Iran on 28 February, which triggered Iran’s retaliatory strikes against Israel and US allies in the region.

Although a ceasefire was successfully achieved on 8 April through mediation by Pakistan, which was later extended by the US, the negotiations underway in Islamabad have so far failed to reach a long-term agreement.
