Ambalawi Sees Post-Eid Pawn Surge as Gold Becomes Go-To Liquidity Source
Ambalawi Sees Post-Eid Pawn Spike as Gold Becomes Go-To Liquidity Source
Bima. The post-Eid al-Fitr 1447 H period has become a key moment for households to rebalance their finances after elevated spending during Ramadan and the holiday season. PT Pegadaian Bima Branch recorded a significant surge in pawn transactions across Bima City and Bima Regency, particularly in the Pegadaian UPC Ambalawi service area.
This trend reflects a growing tendency among the public to leverage owned assets, especially gold, as a source of short-term liquidity without having to sell them. It also indicates improving financial literacy and a shift in post-holiday financial management behavior.
Based on Pegadaian’s internal data as of the end of April 2026, pawn transactions rose markedly compared to the pre-Eid period. Most transactions were dominated by gold jewelry pawning, which people used to meet post-holiday needs such as education expenses, business capital, and household spending.
The increase underscores that gold is no longer viewed solely as an investment instrument, but also as a liquid asset that can be flexibly utilized when needed.
“After Eid, people’s liquidity needs tend to increase. What’s interesting is that people now prefer to pawn their gold rather than sell it, especially at Pegadaian UPC Ambalawi. This shows a growing awareness that gold should be retained as a long-term asset,” said Deputy Business Area of Pegadaian Bima and Pegadaian Sumbawa, Mustofa.
“Pegadaian UPC Ambalawi recorded Year-to-Date growth of 21.65%. Meanwhile, across the area, Pegadaian Bima and Sumbawa Island grew by 23.68%,” Mustofa added.
Pegadaian offers solutions through various pawn products that are fast, secure, and transparent. The ease of process and rapid fund disbursement remain key reasons customers choose Pegadaian’s pawn services as a financial solution.
In addition, the interest-free pawn program extended through the end of April 2026 has become a major attraction. Through this program, customers can obtain loans with a 0% capital lease fee, easing financial burdens during the post-holiday recovery phase.
“We introduced this program to help people maintain financial stability without having to lose their valuable assets. Their gold remains safe, while their needs are still met,” Mustofa said.
The upward trend in pawn transactions is also evident at the regional level. Regional Head of Kanwil VII Denpasar, Edy Purwanto, noted that pawn activity in West Nusa Tenggara, particularly in Bima, saw notable growth after Eid.
“We are seeing a fairly strong increase in pawn transactions after Eid, particularly at Pegadaian Bima Branch and service units such as Pegadaian UPC Ambalawi. This indicates that people increasingly understand the role of pawn services as a prudent and well-planned financial solution,” Edy said.
With this positive trend, Pegadaian remains optimistic that pawn services will continue to grow, not only as an emergency solution but also as part of a more structured and sustainable financial management strategy.
