Amazon Reveals Impact of Iran Attack on Data Centre in Bahrain
An attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on an Amazon Web Services (AWS) data centre in Bahrain was carried out using a drone, Amazon said, noting the strike disrupted application services. DetikNews, citing CNN, reported on Thursday (5 March 2026) that Iranian media said the raid was conducted amid allegations the centres supported military and intelligence activities of Iran’s enemies. Amazon said a drone struck near one of its facilities in Bahrain, and the attack was said to have impacted AWS infrastructure. Previously, Iran had also targeted two AWS facilities in the United Arab Emirates. ‘The strike has caused structural damage, disrupted power delivery to our infrastructure, and in some cases required fire suppression activities that resulted in additional water damage,’ AWS said. Fars, a media outlet affiliated with Iran, also reported that the attack was part of an IRGC operation targeting strategic centres in the region.
