Amazon has announced a massive investment plan for cloud infrastructure development in Southeast Asia (ASEAN) worth over 33billion, equivalenttoRp589.21trillion(assuminganexchangerateofRp17, 854perUS), to be built by 2039.

According to Business Today, the strategic project will focus on four key countries—Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand—to bolster the regional digital economy.

Amazon’s Chief Global Affairs and Legal Officer, David Zapolsky, explained that the initiative aims to build infrastructure and train local workforces to compete globally. He noted that government policies in ASEAN nations are currently supportive of accelerating AI and technology sector growth.

‘Amazon plans to invest over $33 billion across Southeast Asia by 2039. We are building infrastructure, training local talent, and enabling businesses across the region to compete globally,’ he said, citing Business Today.

The company’s economic impact assessment projects that the investment will contribute over $64 billion, equivalent to Rp 1.142 trillion, to the collective GDP of Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand once all phases are completed.

The expansion is also expected to create 56,300 full-time jobs annually along the local data centre supply chain.

‘The governments across Southeast Asia deserve recognition for their bold leadership in shaping policies and economic conditions that accelerate growth and attract global investments in AI and technology at an unprecedented pace,’ Zapolsky added.

Southeast Asia is forecast to become the world’s fourth-largest economy with a digital economy valued at $560 billion by 2030.

With this large-scale cloud infrastructure investment, Amazon aims to accelerate digital transformation and deliver significant value to the regional economy.
