Amateur golfers battle for top honors at BSD
JAKARTA (JP): A huge field of more than 300 golfers, men and women, will tee-off today for the prestigious national trophies - the Soeharto and Tien Soeharto Cups at the Bumi Serpong Damai Golf and Country Club.
The winners of both acclaimed Cups will be decided over a 36 holes play, but due to such huge participation in the men's event for the President Soeharto Cup, the field will be split into a three-day competition, a committee spokesman said yesterday.
After today's 18-hole qualifying round for the women's event and part of the men's, tomorrow the tournament will be for the other group of the men's qualifying round. The field in the women's event will be reduced to 25 players who will compete to win the Madame Tien Soeharto Cup won by Retno Mustari last year.
The field in the men's competition will be reduced to 128 who will try their luck for the President Soeharto Cup won by Asmawi from Jakarta last year.
The final round for both the men's and women's tournament, sanctioned by PGI (Indonesia Golf Association) will be held on Friday (rsl).
