Amateur golfer Denny still in the lead
JAKARTA (JP): Taking advantage of playing on home ground, the rising star amateur golfer Denny Supriadi kept his sole lead after the third day of action of the Jakarta Golf Circuit at Sawangan layout yesterday.
Denny, 19, who helped Indonesia in retaining the Putra Cup title early this year, was in the lead since the opening round on Tuesday, thanks to his consistent play and perfect putting throughout the round.
Carding a three-day total of 1-under 215 (70,73,72) yesterday Denny was still one stroke ahead of pro player Ilyas Syak from Jakarta. Both Denny and Ilyas yesterday closed the round with an even 72. Ilyas had a 73 on Wednesday and carded a 1-under 71 in the opening round on Tuesday for a 216 and led the professional players.
The Jakarta Golf Circuit is an annual championship for local golfers both amateur and professional being played over three courses in the capital. After the Sawangan event the tournament will move to Ancol in North Jakarta. Halim Two layout in East Jakarta will host the third and final stage of the Circuit which offers a total cash prize of Rp75 million (about US$36,000).
Three seasoned pro golfers Sumarno, Kasiyadi and Gimin Suwiryo were tied at second place each with a 219, three strokes behind the pace setter.
Bahtiar, Denny's Putra Cup teammate, was five strokes further back with a 220 (73,73,74) and placed second in the amateur event.
Individual 1994 Putra Cup champion Sukamdi from Medan, North Sumatra was third with a 221 (73,73,75) (rsl).
