JAKARTA — One of the largest barriers preventing the public from switching to electric vehicles is anxiety over range capability and the availability of charging infrastructure.

Addressing this challenge, Alva is preparing a dual-pronged strategy through product specification updates and massive infrastructure expansion this year.

Alva’s Chief Executive Officer, Purbaja Pantja, explained that the company continues to position electric motorcycles as a primary mode of transport, not merely a hobby vehicle or short-distance transportation.

However, long range alone is insufficient without the support of a widespread charging ecosystem.

Purbaja emphasised that Alva is serious about building a network of boost charging stations to facilitate users during daily activities and long-distance journeys along Java’s main corridors.

For the Jakarta to Bandung route, five fast-charging points are already available. Meanwhile, in Central Java along the Semarang-Solo-Yogyakarta corridor, five points are available, with three for the Surabaya-Malang route.

Purbaja added that this number will continue to be expanded aggressively, reaching double by 2026.

The company’s primary focus is increasing the number of connectors to ensure user mobility is not hindered by charging wait times.

“The number of connectors we currently have is nearly 200. Our plan is to at least double that number this year from what we have built since last year,” Purbaja added.

Beyond the ecosystem, Alva is also strengthening its after-sales service plans to match the growth in its vehicle population.

To date, Alva has established nine Alva Experience Centres in various major cities across Indonesia with more than 30 Alva Partners spread throughout the Java and Bali regions.

Moving forward, Alva will focus on managing 41 after-sales service networks to facilitate the increasing ratio of Alva motorcycle ownership.

This step is expected to dispel negative stereotypes concerning the limitations of electric motorcycles for long-distance travel.
