BINTARO, KOMPAS.com - ALVA’s strategy in introducing a more affordable product line appears to be paying off handsomely. Their latest model, the ALVA N3, has officially become the backbone of sales for the local electric motorcycle brand in Indonesia.

Although it did not specify exact unit figures, ALVA stated that the N3’s dominance is highly significant. This model has been recorded as accounting for more than half of ALVA’s total motorcycle distribution at present.

Purbaya Pantja, Chief Executive Officer of ALVA, revealed that the market’s reception of this entry-level model has been extraordinary compared to previous models.

The N3’s success is inseparable from the ownership innovation scheme offered. ALVA introduced the ‘Bebas Pas’ concept or battery subscription, which allows consumers to purchase the motorcycle unit without bearing the full battery cost upfront.

The N3’s price can thus be made cheaper, initially Rp 35.5 million becoming Rp 15.5 million. Additionally, the battery rental cost starts from Rp 125,000 per month up to Rp 250,000, depending on how far the motorcycle is used.

“Since we launched the N3 last year, its sales have indeed increased significantly. We are trying to expand ownership methods, one of which is the Bebas Pas concept,” said Adit, his familiar nickname.

This subscription scheme has been welcomed by consumers as it is considered to lighten the initial financial burden. Interestingly, the market is now fairly evenly divided between those who choose battery rental and those who still opt to buy the battery outright.

“So far, it’s quite similar between those using Bebas Pas and those buying the battery (all at once). In our view, this targets two different markets. Some prefer the monthly rental concept, while others feel more comfortable if the motorcycle comes with the battery right away,” Purbaya concluded.
