Alva CEO's Message on Government Electric Motorcycle Incentives

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The government is currently formulating a new incentive scheme for electric vehicles. Amidst this waiting period, electric motorcycle manufacturer Alva hopes the resulting policy will not only attract consumer interest but also provide certainty for industry players. CEO Alva Purbaja Pantja stated that the company will essentially follow the government’s decisions. According to him, various forms of incentives can provide benefits as long as they are well-designed. “We just follow the policy. We continue to thank the government for thinking about this industry. Whether it is the subsidy programme that has been running or the government’s thoughts on the programme’s effectiveness, we just follow,” Purbaja said during a discussion in Tangerang on Monday (3/8/26). He assessed that government support does not always have to be in the form of direct subsidies to buyers. Incentives can also be directed to producers or the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem to accelerate adoption. Each scheme has its own advantages, but the most important thing is that the policy can encourage sustainable industry growth while providing certainty for businesses to plan their investments. “There are many ways when talking about incentives. It could be directly to consumers, to producers, or perhaps developing the ecosystem. In our view, all can be effective if done properly,” he said. Alva hopes the government can formulate a policy that applies over a longer period. This certainty is considered crucial for producers to have a foundation for developing business and investment strategies. “If there is a hope, these programmes should be as long-term as possible. Not just one year. That way, we as producers can create a longer business plan, because making a business plan takes time and we hope programmes like this can be multi-year,” he concluded.
