Alutsista Increases, Prabowo: We Want to Build Strength
President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised his intention to continue building and strengthening national defence capabilities. Prabowo made this statement during the handover ceremony of the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ (TNI) main weapons systems (alutsista) in Jakarta on Monday, 18 May 2026.
Prabowo stated that the strengthening of the national defence system is intended to maintain the security of all Indonesian territories, including air, sea, and land. “In the future, we will continue to build our strength. We want to secure our airspace, our maritime territory, and certainly our land territory,” Prabowo told reporters at the Base Ops of Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, East Jakarta, on Monday morning.
The addition of these defence tools is part of the national weapons system modernisation programme initiated by Prabowo during his tenure as Minister of Defence for the 2019-2024 period.
The range of weaponry handed over by President Prabowo to the TNI today includes six Dassault Aviation Rafale Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MRCA); four Dassault Falcon 8X aircraft; one Airbus A400M Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT); GM403 Ground Control Intervention (GCI) radar; as well as Hammer smart weapon systems and Meteor missiles.
Prabowo assessed that the national defence system is key to maintaining the stability and sovereignty of the nation. The Head of State specifically highlighted the recent volatility in global geopolitics.
“We see the state of the world; geopolitics is full of uncertainty, and we know that defence is the primary requirement for stability—a guarantee that we can remain sovereign,” said Prabante.
According to the Indonesian Government Communication Agency, the presence of Rafale fighter jets is expected to enhance Indonesia’s aerial combat capabilities, both in air-to-air and air-to-ground operations. Meanwhile, the Falcon 8X aircraft is considered capable of supporting national strategic mobility and surveillance missions. Furthermore, the A400M MRTT will strengthen logistics transport capabilities and aerial refueling for long-range operations, while the GCI GM403 radar will play a vital role in early detection and national air defence control to safeguard the nation’s airspace.
