Alumni Demand Audit of New Student Admissions After Unsoed Rector Caught in KPK Sting
The Alumni Association of Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) is urging an audit, evaluation, and governance reform after Rector Akhmad Sodiq was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in an alleged extortion case related to new student admissions or gratification.
“The Unsoed Alumni Association calls for a comprehensive audit, evaluation, and reform of the governance of new student admissions as well as other areas at risk of corruption, conflicts of interest, and abuse of authority,” said KA Unsoed Chairman Abdul Kholik in a press release on Saturday (22/8).
KA Unsoed expressed its concern over the alleged corruption. Kholik said universities should be homes of knowledge as well as places where the values of integrity, honesty, and exemplary conduct are instilled in the younger generation.
Nevertheless, he expressed hope that the legal process involving individuals would not undermine trust in Unsoed as an institution.
“Unsoed must not stop because of an individual’s legal problems. Unsoed must continue to stand as a home of knowledge, integrity, justice, and service to the nation,” Kholik said.
“The great name of General Soedirman borne by this university must serve as a reminder of the values of exemplary conduct, courage, simplicity, honesty, and service,” he continued.
KA Unsoed called on all parties to respect the presumption of innocence and the legal rights of the suspects.
It also urged the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology to immediately ensure the continuity of Unsoed’s leadership, including appointing an acting rector, so that academic activities and university services are not disrupted.
The KPK has named a total of six suspects in the alleged extortion case related to new student admissions at Unsoed or the acceptance of gratification.
The suspects are Unsoed Rector Akhmad Sodiq; Unsoed Vice Rector III Norman Arie Prayoga; Unsoed Head of Academic Affairs Eko Sumanto; and three private individuals named Dian Mulia Wardhana, Adhi Wiharto, and Mulyono.
The naming of suspects follows a sting operation in Purwokerto and Jakarta as well as intensive examinations conducted by the KPK since Thursday (20/8).
The KPK has detained the suspects for the first 20 days from 21 August to 9 September 2026. The detention is being carried out at the KPK’s Red and White Building branch state detention centre.
