Alternative Route for Tourists to Kuta Mandalika Severely Damaged
The condition of the regency road connecting Sekotong Timur village with Mareje village, Lembar sub-district, West Lombok, is concerning. The road serves as the main and fastest access route for residents to the main road. It is also an alternative route for tourists heading to the Kuta Mandalika tourist destination in Central Lombok.
As observed by detikBali at the location on Wednesday (25/2/2026), the road surface is filled with potholes of varying depths. Several points are flooded, forcing drivers to slow down and look for safe gaps to pass through.
The atmosphere on the road is now quieter because the connecting bridge, which was usually used by drivers, has been broken by the river current.
The road is known to be the closest route to Kuta Mandalika from several islands (gilies) in Sekotong. Foreign tourists are also said to frequently use the road. However, ironically, the damaged asphalt is what greets them along the way.
“Usually, tourists pass through here, sometimes in convoys,” said a local resident, Rohidi, when met at the location.
Rohidi said that tourists still use the road even though it is damaged and full of potholes. However, in the last few days, they have not been seen passing through because they know that the connecting bridge on the road has been broken.
“Well, now where are the tourists coming from here, because they saw that the bridge was broken yesterday,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Sekotong Timur Village, Marwan Hakim, said that tourists are often directed by Google Maps, so they have become accustomed to using the road.
“This is actually the closest route from Gili Mas to Kuta Mandalika or Central Lombok. The tourists use maps and are directed here,” he said.
Marwan hopes that the road can be repaired this year. According to him, the road is the only closest access that can be used by thousands of residents in three villages to get to the main road.
