The alternative southern cross-route in Sukamantri District, Ciamis Regency, leading to Majalengka Regency, is severely damaged with no repairs forthcoming from local government authorities.

The most severe road deterioration occurs between Malausma Village and Cikijing, Majalengka Regency. The damage has persisted for an extended period, particularly in Sukamantri Village, with road users complaining about the complete absence of repair efforts.

Agus Risman, 55, a motorcycle rider from Sukamantri District, Ciamis Regency, stated that the damage to the alternative route in his area is considerable. He noted that there have been no repair attempts from local authorities.

“The alternative road through Sukamantri Village towards Majalengka Regency is damaged. There are many potholes and no repair efforts have been made. Yet this is the closest road to the Cipali Toll Road,” he said on Monday (2 March).

According to Agus, the alternative route through Sukamantri has long been used by motorcycle and car drivers because it is the shortest route. This alternative road is also utilised by farmers to distribute their harvest.

“We urge the local government to repair the potholed road as quickly as possible before Lebaran. We pay our taxes dutifully; the government should maintain it. Due to this damage, many vehicle owners must bear the risk, particularly damaged rims, broken components, punctured tyres, and traffic accidents,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Ujang, 60, a resident of Cikoneng, noted that the national southern cross-route through West Java towards Central Java, starting from Sindangkasih junction towards Cikoneng, still has many potholes. Road repairs by authorities are mostly temporary patching.

“The current condition remains dangerous for motorcycle riders. Road improvements on the southern route are not yet visible,” he insisted.

Residents are demanding urgent road repairs before the Lebaran holiday season when traffic volumes increase significantly. The deteriorating road conditions pose serious safety risks and vehicle damage to commuters, farmers, and commercial transport operators who depend on this critical route.
