The alternative route from Bireuen Regency to Central Aceh, specifically in Wih Porak Village, Pintu Rime Gayo Subdistrict, has been completely cut off due to flooding.

This alternative route was previously severed on Sunday (5/4). Rock and soil materials blocked the road, which was immediately addressed by local authorities deploying heavy equipment.

However, on Monday (6/4) afternoon, the road was cut off again due to subsequent flooding that struck the area. As of 23:00 WIB, the floodwaters still inundate the alternative road, making it impassable for two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles.

“Yesterday it was cut off and immediately handled. This afternoon it was cut off again because the river’s water discharge rose,” said Ilham Abdi, Head of the Data and Information Centre at the Bener Meriah Regency Disaster Management Post, to CNNIndonesia.com.

This route serves as the only alternative road to Central Aceh from Bireuen Regency, after the national road from the Enang-enang area was completely severed during a flood and landslide disaster that hit the area at the end of November 2025.

“The Wih Porak road is a diversion/alternative to the National Road Enang-enang, which has not been passable since the hydro-meteorological disaster. So if that road is also cut off, there is no other way except via the KKA road (North Aceh),” Ilham stated.

Currently, the team has prepared two pieces of heavy equipment at the Wih Porak site but they cannot yet operate due to the still high water discharge. Meanwhile, at the location, vehicles continue to queue up to cross the road.

“There are two pieces of heavy equipment on standby there and handling it, but they are hampered by the still high water discharge,” Ilham added.
