Alphard Runs Red Light in Central Jakarta, Suspected of Using Fake Plates
A Toyota Alphard was caught running a red light at a pedestrian crossing in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta. Police are investigating the luxury vehicle for allegedly using a registration plate not assigned to it.
Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate at the Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, stated that his unit is aware of the alleged misuse of the vehicle’s plates. He confirmed that the Alphard driver will be summoned for clarification.
“I will issue a summons for clarification to the Alphard owner,” Ojo said when contacted on Thursday (23/7).
In photos and videos circulating on social media, the black Alphard bears the registration number D-1828-XHQ. However, a check on the West Java Regional Revenue Agency website indicates that this plate number is registered to a silver metallic Daihatsu.
Police will also summon the security guard who was involved in a verbal altercation with the Alphard driver after reprimanding them for the traffic violation. Both parties will be confronted.
“The summons for clarification will be issued to the security guard involved in the altercation with the Alphard driver. Afterwards, we will confront them at the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate,” he explained.
Ojo stated that the summons for both parties will be carried out on Friday (24/7) and Monday (27/7). He said both parties will be asked for information regarding the incident.
“The summons will be conducted on Friday and Monday. After that, we will confront them, bring both parties together,” Ojo clarified.
He mentioned that during the summons, his party will thoroughly investigate the origins of the incident, including the alleged use of a different vehicle’s plates by the Alphard driver.
“(We will examine) everything related to the incident, including the event itself, the vehicle used, the articles we will charge, and so on,” he added.
It was previously reported that the driver of the Toyota Alphard ran a red light at Bundaran HI, Central Jakarta, and argued with a security guard who reprimanded them. Police stated the Alphard driver has been issued a ticket.
“They received an electronic ticket,” said Menteng Metro Police Chief AKBP Braiel Arnold Rondonuwu when contacted on Wednesday (22/7).
Braiel explained that the security guard at the location reprimanded the Alphard driver for running the red light by banging on the car window. The Alphard driver took offence, leading to a commotion.
“The security guard then reprimanded the driver by banging on the car window. The driver did not accept the security guard’s actions, and a verbal altercation ensued,” he explained.
Both parties later went to the Thamrin Police Post. Officers facilitated mediation, and the matter was resolved amicably.
“After both parties agreed, they finally forgave each other and shook hands. It was resolved amicably with mediation assistance from the Police Post Chief at the Thamrin Police Post,” he said.
