Alphard Driver Who Ran Red Light at Bundaran HI Issued Ticket

The Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate has taken firm action against the driver of a black Toyota Alphard luxury car who ran a red light and used an improper vehicle registration plate in the Bundaran HI area, Central Jakarta. “We have conducted a clarification and taken action by issuing a ticket to the driver of the black Alphard who ran a red light on Jalan MH Thamrin, around the Bundaran HI, heading north,” said Head of the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metro Police, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, in Jakarta on Saturday. He explained that the action was a follow-up to the traffic violation that occurred on Wednesday (22/7) at around 12.13 p.m. Western Indonesian Time. “Officers then summoned the driver, with the initials RPW, for questioning on Friday (24/7) evening at the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate office of the Jakarta Metro Police,” Ojo said. He stated that from the physical inspection and document verification, it was discovered that the vehicle was using a fake number plate. The vehicle’s original registration number is B 97 ELI, registered under the name Dr. Elly Herawati Pengabean. “Meanwhile, the number plate D 1828 XHQ that was installed at the time of the violation is actually registered to a silver Daihatsu Gran Max from West Bandung Regency,” Ojo explained. The first article applied is Article 287 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 106 paragraph (4) letter c concerning the violation of traffic signal devices, which carries a maximum penalty of two months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp500,000. In addition, the driver is also charged under Article 280 in conjunction with Article 68 paragraph (1) regarding the use of an invalid or unauthorised vehicle registration plate, which also carries a maximum penalty of two months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp500,000. Besides issuing a ticket, officers from the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate also seized the fake number plate D 1828 XHQ as evidence. Previously, the Jakarta Metro Police Traffic Directorate had announced plans to summon and clarify the matter with the owner of the viral Toyota Alphard after it ran a pedestrian crossing light and was suspected of using a fake number plate in Central Jakarta. “I will summon the Alphard owner for clarification, and then summon the security guard involved in the altercation with the driver. The summonses are scheduled for Friday (24/7) and Monday (27/7),” Ojo said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7). He revealed that the investigation was conducted following a viral social media post showing the luxury car running a pedestrian crossing light. After separate initial examinations, both parties will be brought together for a confrontation process at the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate office. “The in-depth process will cover all aspects of the incident, from the chronology of events, the validity of documents and vehicle number plates, to the determination of applicable traffic violation and criminal articles,” Ojo stated.
