Alphard Driver Who Ran Red Light at Bundaran HI Issued Ticket
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate (Subdit Gakkum) of the Traffic Directorate of Jakarta Metropolitan Police has taken firm action against the driver of a black luxury Toyota Alphard who ran a red light and used a vehicle registration number plate (TNKB) not matching its designated use in the Bundaran HI area of Central Jakarta.
“We have carried out clarification and enforcement in the form of a traffic fine against the driver of the black Alphard who ran a red light on Jalan MH Thamrin, around Bundaran HI, heading north,” said the Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-Directorate of the Traffic Directorate at Jakarta Metropolitan Police, AKBP Ojo Ruslani, in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that the enforcement was a follow-up to the traffic violation that occurred on Wednesday (22 July) at around 12.13 Western Indonesian Time.
“Officers then summoned the driver, initials RPW, to give a statement on Friday evening (24 July) at the Subdit Gakkum office of the Traffic Directorate, Jakarta Metropolitan Police,” said Ojo.
He stated that a physical examination and document verification revealed that the vehicle was using a fake number plate. The vehicle’s genuine registration number was B 97 ELI, registered in the name of Dr Elly Herawati Pengabean.
“Meanwhile, the plate D 1828 XHQ fitted at the time of the violation was actually registered to a silver Daihatsu Gran Max from West Bandung Regency,” said Ojo.
The first charge brought was Article 287 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 106 paragraph (4) letter c concerning violations of traffic light signals (APILL/red lights), carrying a maximum penalty of two months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp500,000.
In addition, the driver was also charged under Article 280 in conjunction with Article 68 paragraph (1) concerning the use of a TNKB that is not lawful or not issued by the Indonesian National Police, carrying a maximum penalty of two months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp500,000.
As well as issuing the traffic fine, officers of the Subdit Gakkum of the Traffic Directorate at Jakarta Metropolitan Police also seized the fake number plate D 1828 XHQ as evidence.
Previously, the Traffic Directorate of Jakarta Metropolitan Police had said it would summon and seek clarification from the owner of the Toyota Alphard that went viral after running a red light at a pedestrian crossing and allegedly using a fake number plate in the Central Jakarta area.
“I will issue a summons for clarification to the owner of the Alphard, then a summons for clarification to the security personnel involved in the altercation with the driver. The summonses will be issued on Friday (24 July) and Monday (27 July),” Ojo said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (23 July).
He revealed that the examination was conducted following a viral post on social media showing the luxury car running a red light at a pedestrian crossing.
After initial questioning separately, both parties will be brought together for a confrontation process at the Subdit Gakkum office.
“The investigative process will cover all aspects of the incident, from the chronology of events, the validity of the documents and the vehicle’s number plates, through to determining which traffic and criminal provisions may be applied,” Ojo explained.
