Allianz Sharia Boss: Spin-Off to Build a Sustainable Sharia Insurance Business
Allianz Life Sharia Indonesia, or Allianz Sharia, has affirmed that the reason for spinning off from its parent company while still in the form of a Sharia Business Unit (UUS) is to ensure sustainable business operations. This aligns with the enormous potential of the sharia insurance business in Indonesia.
Regarding proposals for shared services upon becoming independent or spinning off, Director of Allianz Life Sharia Indonesia, Jazilah Firdaus, stated that Allianz Sharia prioritises how the business can continue to grow and develop sustainably. Therefore, business projections are formulated over the long term.
“Regardless of shared service or not, I think the reason why we want to spin-off and we want to do business in sharia insurance is sustainable business. In order to have a sustainable business, then we need to strategise, and part of the strategy is also about distribution,” she said, quoted from the Media Asuransi YouTube channel on Friday, 20 March 2026.
Compared to focusing on shared services, she added, Allianz Sharia is more inclined towards building a more sustainable business. For example, regarding insurance agents, Allianz Sharia emphasises agents who can support the sharia insurance business at Allianz Sharia in the future.
“For example, we are more inclined towards agency, then how we share this sales force for now. But five years from now, ten years from now, if we want to build a sustainable business, then what must we do? At Allianz Sharia, we call it sharia focus agent,” she explained.
To maximise the business at Allianz Sharia, she did not deny that it requires hard efforts to strengthen business fundamentals, which must be done sustainably and with a long-term orientation.
“So a lot of efforts need to be done in order to build that fundamental. So that later, if we don’t build from now, five years later, 10 years later, if we continue to rely on these dual-licensed agents, then I don’t think the business is going to be sustainable,” she stressed.
“So the initial intention is when we spin-off, how to build a sustainable business and by building a sustainable business. If you ask me which channel is going to be the driver, then what is the main capability, or what is the main driver for your growth strategy. If it’s agency, then think about how we want to build,” she said.
For example, forming and building specialised insurance agents in sharia insurance, she continued, means Allianz Sharia will devise strategies to maximise it. “Let’s say a specialised agent that focuses on sharia, and really strategise on that. If bancassurance is actually the main driver, or if you want to, let’s say, be strong in both,” she concluded.
