Alleged vandal faces jail term

BOGOR (JP): The Bogor district court was asked yesterday to sentence a man to three months in jail for damaging a public telephone facility on Jl. Raya Bogor-Jakarta in Cimanggis.

Prosecutor Amiek Mulandari said in her sentence request that the defendant, Robin Manalu, 27, and a friend identified as Mangotang Hutasoit were drunk when they alighted from a public transportation vehicle at 9 p.m. on Feb. 12.

"As Robin leaned on the telephone facility, which was not properly installed, he suddenly asked Mangotang's help to uproot it," she said.

They broke the facility, removing the cap and cutting its cable, she said, adding that the damage cause state-owned telecommunications company PT Telkom to suffer losses amounting to Rp 3.5 million.

Amiek said the defendant violated Article 170 of Criminal Code on damaging public facilities.

Mangotang is being tried in the court separately. (24)
