Alleged Tramadol Sellers' Shops in Pasar Rebo Targeted with Firecrackers by Residents
A video showing shops allegedly selling tramadol in the Kalisari and Pekayon areas of Pasar Rebo, East Jakarta, being targeted with firecrackers by residents has circulated on social media.
In the video uploaded by the Instagram account @badanperwakilannetizen, residents can be seen throwing firecrackers towards shops suspected of selling the controlled drug. The action was reportedly triggered by residents’ concerns about tramadol circulation in the area.
The firecrackers were thrown into the shops, with shop attendants appearing to hide and move away as the explosives detonated.
According to accounts of the incident, the vigilante action was undertaken because residents claimed that their police reports had gone unheeded. “We took the initiative ourselves to use firecrackers. We reported it to the police but they didn’t listen. After they visited, a week later the shops opened again, which is why we threw firecrackers,” said Akbar when contacted on Monday, 9 March 2026.
According to him, many residents were concerned about the sale of tramadol in the area. These complaints, he said, were frequently communicated to residents through Instagram direct messages and WhatsApp.
“Because of the residents’ concerns. They conveyed their grievances to us through direct messages, and when we threw the firecrackers everyone ran away,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Pasar Rebo Police Chief First Inspector Wayan Wijaya confirmed that his office would follow up on the viral video circulating on social media.
He stressed that police had previously conducted inspections at several shops suspected of selling controlled drugs. “We have conducted raids at shops suspected of selling controlled drugs, but found nothing,” he said.
