Alleged thieves mobbed to death

TANGERANG: Two men were mobbed to death after allegedly attempting to steal a motorcycle from an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver on Thursday evening in Sindang Sono village, Pasar Kemis district, Tangerang regency.

One of the suspects was identified as Sanpawi, 20, a resident of Saga village in Balaraja district, Tangerang regency, but the other suspect remains unidentified.

Their bodies will be kept at the Tangerang General Hospital morgue until Friday evening.

Tangerang Police detective deputy chief Adj. Comr. Kustanto said that both suspects had pretended to be ojek passengers and asked driver Amaludin to take them to Kawidaran village in Cikupa district, Tangerang regency, on one motorcycle at around 9:30 p.m.

Suddenly, one of the suspects punched Awaludin in the head while the other tried to take his motorcycle. Awaludin attempted to fight back but injured his neck.

Both suspects attempted to flee the scene. However, Awaludin's shouts alerted those nearby and an angry mob descended on the two. Using stones and knives they beat the suspects. They stopped when the police arrived, but it was too late, the two men were already dead.-- JP
