Alleged murder to be probed

JAYAPURA, Papua: Papuan leaders agreed on Thursday to establish a team to investigate the killing of a priest in the Puncak Jaya region.

The agreement was hammered out after a meeting at the Papua provincial council attended by council chief John Ibo, the chief of the Trikora military command overseeing Papua, Maj. Gen. Nurdin Zainal, and the leader of Papua Anti-Military Front, Jefrison A. Pagawak.

The team would look into the front's allegation that Indonesian military (TNI) soldiers murdered recently Elisa Tabuni, a Catholic priest. Elisa has been accused by the military of leading an insurgency in Puncak Jaya. -- JP
