Alleged motorcycle thief arrested

DENPASAR, Bali: An alleged motorcycle thief, identified as Sahmin, was arrested on Sunday night at Padangbai Port, some 70 kilometers east of Denpasar.

A police officer said on Monday Sahmin was arrested when he attempted to board a ship for Lombok with the stolen motorcycle.

Badung Police chief of detectives Sr. Insp. Husein Abubakar said Sahmin was arrested by Karangasem Police, who seized from the suspect a Yamaha Force-One motorcycle bearing registration number DK-5525-DR.

Abubakar said Sahmin was attempting to board a ship bound for his hometown on Lombok with the stolen motorcycle. However, local police arrested him when he failed to show ownership papers for the motorcycle.

He said officers were forced to shoot Sahmin twice in both legs when he attempted to escape by leaping from the police van.

Abubakar added that the motorcycle, which the suspect allegedly stole on Wednesday, belonged to a man who worked with Sahmin on a construction site on Jl. Tunjungsari in Kuta. (zen/lup)
