Alleged hoodlum found dead
JAKARTA (JP): A notorious conman and hoodlum was found dead yesterday morning hanging from a set of parallel bars in a park in front of the private PSKD school complex in Melawai district, South Jakarta, police said.
City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang yesterday identified the victim as Udin Pe'a, 43, a former hoodlum who had served several jail terms for various crimes, particularly theft.
"Preliminary investigations proved that he committed suicide by hanging himself from the bars with his trousers. But the reason behind the suicide is still unknown," he said.
He said no marks were found on Udin's body indicating violence. The body, dressed in a T-shirt and shorts, was found by passersby about 6 a.m. yesterday.
Aritonang said people who had seen Udin near the Blok M shopping area lately said he was not a hoodlum, but a vagrant. (cst)
