Alleged Free Nutritious Meal Poisoning at SMAN 1 Tunjungan Blora; Service Unit Cited for Third Incident
The Deputy Regent of Blora, Sri Setyorini, has stated that she will recommend the closure of the Sukoredo 2 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG). This decision follows an alleged mass poisoning incident involving the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme, which affected 136 students and one teacher at SMAN 1 Tunjungan, Blora.
Sri revealed that prior to the incident at SMAN 1 Tunjungan, the Sukorejo 2 SPPG had already been issued two warnings. According to information obtained by Republika, these warnings pertained to the unit’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL).
“Because we have warned the Sukorejo SPPG twice, and this (alleged poisoning case) is the third, we have no choice but to propose a closure,” said Sri, who also serves as the Chair of the Blora MBG Acceleration Task Force, during an interview on Tuesday (8/9/2026).
When asked whether she would propose the permanent closure of the Sukorejo 2 SPPG, Sri noted that such a decision ultimately rests with the central government. However, she intends to push for a permanent shutdown. “I am proposing a permanent closure because there have been three failures,” she stated.
She also reported receiving information that the MBG menu distributed by the Sukorejo 2 SPPG to one of the recipient schools on Tuesday was found to contain worms. “This means I assess the hygiene standards to be insufficient,” said Sri.
A total of 136 students and one teacher at SMAN 1 Tunjungan are suspected of suffering from food poisoning from the MBG. They experienced diarrhoea and dizziness, with at least four students requiring referral to a hospital.
The Public Relations officer for SMAN 1 Tunjungan Blora, Totok, explained that the suspected poisoning began when several students failed to attend school on Tuesday (8/9/2026). “Initially, there were reports of students absent due to diarrhoea. We also observed students frequently entering and leaving the toilets,” he said during an interview on Tuesday.
He added that the school subsequently coordinated efforts to identify all students experiencing diarrhoeal symptoms. This was confirmed by the Principal of SMAN 1 Tunjungan Blora, Yuni Ni’wati, who stated, “All students showing symptoms were asked to gather in the hall.”
