Alleged Cause of Man's Death in LRT Pancoran Electrical Substation Identified

The body of an unidentified man was discovered in an electrical substation near the Pancoran LRT in South Jakarta this afternoon. Police stated that the victim is suspected to have died due to high-voltage electrocution.

“He climbed to the second floor of the substation. It is suspected he was electrocuted by high voltage,” said Pancoran Police Chief, Commissioner Suminto, at the location on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Suminto noted that there is no definitive information regarding the exact time of death. However, initial examinations indicate the cause of death was an electric shock.

“Regarding the time of death, the odour suggests high-voltage electrocution, so we do not know the exact moment, as PLN (State Electricity Company) reported exposure to high voltage present here,” he explained.

Suminto added that the man in the LRT Pancoran substation was suspected of attempting to steal cables. The victim was found carrying several tools intended for cutting cables within the substation.

“It is predicted that cables were the target, as the tools brought were a hacksaw and plastic bags,” he said.

Several PLN assets at the location were damaged. PLN UID Jakarta Raya inspected the LRT Pancoran substation where the body was found, and the company revealed that damage had occurred to the facility.

“Responding to information regarding the incident at the PLN Connecting Substation near Pancoran LRT Station, South Jakarta, PLN acted swiftly to conduct checks and inspections of electrical assets at the location,” said Haris Andika, Senior Manager of Communications and General Affairs at PLN UID Jakarta Raya, in a statement on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Haris mentioned that damage occurred to several PLN assets within the LRT substation. One of the damaged items, he noted, was the substation door.

“Based on initial inspections, damage was found on several parts of PLN assets. The Connecting Substation door, which was previously locked, was found damaged and open,” he said.

Furthermore, Haris stated that several cables and components within the substation had been altered. “Officers also found that several cables and components inside the substation were not in their proper condition,” he added.

He requested that the police conduct further investigations into these findings. He was not yet able to specify the exact cause of the damage to the substation where the body was found.

“PLN is coordinating with the Police to conduct further examination and investigation to determine the cause and chronology of the incident,” he said.
