Allegations of Verbal Sexual Harassment at UI Law Faculty, University: Investigation Underway
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Universitas Indonesia (UI) is currently processing allegations of verbal sexual violence involving several students at the Faculty of Law (FH) UI. The handling of this case is being carried out by UI’s Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (Satgas PPKS) with a victim-centred approach. UI’s Director of Public Relations, Media, Government, and International Affairs, Erwin Agustian Panigoro, stated that the current handling process includes verification of reports, summoning of parties, gathering of evidence, and coordination with relevant units at the faculty and university levels. “And summoning of the students suspected of being involved,” he added. In addition, the Student Representative Council of the Faculty of Law UI has imposed an organisational sanction by revoking the active membership status of several students. This revocation is outlined in Decree Number 007/SK/BPMFHUI/IV/2026 as part of the initial response at the student organisation level. If violations are proven during the investigation process, the university will impose sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations. “Including academic sanctions up to dismissal as a student,” he emphasised. “And it does not rule out further coordination with law enforcement authorities if criminal elements are found,” Erwin explained. UI assures that the entire handling process is carried out professionally, independently, and free from intervention or conflicts of interest. The university also provides comprehensive support for affected parties, covering psychological, legal, and academic aspects, and guarantees the confidentiality of the victim’s identity. He added that any form of sexual violence, including verbal forms occurring in digital or offline interactions, constitutes a serious violation of the university’s core values, the academic community’s code of ethics, and applicable legal regulations. Previously, 16 students were alleged to have committed acts of sexual violence against a female student at the Faculty of Law UI. The allegations went viral on social media platform X on Monday (13/4/2026).
