Allegations of Illegal Levies: Central Jakarta Mayor Inspects Parking Tariffs on Jalan Sumenep
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Mayor of Central Jakarta, Arifin, has requested an inspection of parking management on Jalan Sumdenep, Menteng, after discovering alleged discrepancies in parking tariffs and procedures at the location on Friday.
“We want to ensure that the regulations are being followed correctly. Some reported a fee of Rp2,000, while others said Rp5,000,” said Arifin during an inspection of the Sumenep Park revitalisation plans.
Arifin stated that Jalan Sumenep is one of the parking locations officially designated by the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub). However, he emphasised that the mechanisms and tariffs applied on the ground must be verified to ensure they comply with existing regulations.
He also requested that private parking lots in the surrounding area be taken into consideration. If they possess the necessary permits, he noted, vehicles could be directed to those lots to prevent roadside parking from obstructing the function of the road.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Central Jakarta Parking Unit, Arudolf Tumanggor, stated that the official parking rates at the location are Rp2,000 for motorcycles, Rp5,000 for cars, and Rp1,000 for bicycles.
“Our rules are clear: it is Rp2,000 for motorcycles, Rp5,000 for cars, and Rp1,000 for bicycles,” said Arudolf.
He added that his department will re-examine the situation on the ground following allegations of levies that do not match the official rates. Arudolf also explained that parking attendants are required to issue tickets in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP).
However, during the inspection at the site, officers did not find any parking attendants carrying tickets. He noted that there are two official parking attendants assigned to the location via official duty letters, namely Yudi and Ali.
If any violations are proven, both individuals will be summoned for questioning. “If we find a violation, such as non-compliance with the tariff, they will be investigated. If an error is found, we will certainly revoke their duty letters,” he said.
