Allegations of Epstein Distraction After Trump Releases 162 Secret UFO Documents
US President Donald Trump has released a collection of secret documents regarding unidentified flying object (UFO) sighting reports. However, this has drawn criticism for being perceived as a distraction from the Jeffrey Epstein sex offender case.
As compiled by detikcom on Sunday (10/5/2026), the Pentagon, or US Department of Defense, released 162 secret documents documenting UFO sighting reports on Friday (8/5) morning local time.
In addition to the Pentagon, the secret documents originate from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the State Department, and the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The documents are accessible to the public on the Pentagon’s official website.
US politician Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former Republican Party member of Congress, as reported by The Hill on Saturday (9/5), voiced criticism of the Pentagon’s move to release the secret documents in a statement via social media platform X.
“I am so sick of the ‘shiny object’ propaganda while they wage wars abroad, let rapists and paedophiles roam free, and destroy the value of our dollar,” wrote Greene, a former Trump ally, in her statement.
“Unless they show live aliens and test UFOs or actually admit what we really know, then I have much better things to do on a Friday,” she added.
The Republican politician from the state of Georgia then alluded to the Epstein case documents that have not been fully released by the Trump administration, in accordance with a US congressional law.
“The most transparent administration in history still hasn’t released all the Epstein documents or arrested anyone, but releases some UFO documents today so you’ll be so excited you’ll forget you’re paying over US$4.50/gallon because they’re at war abroad again, which they said they wouldn’t do,” Greene sarcastically remarked.
Greene is one of the few Republican politicians in the US House of Representatives who support the release of the Epstein case documents.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ), under Trump, has released Epstein documents gradually but very slowly. However, the Epstein Documents Transparency Act mandates the simultaneous release of all documents. The Trump administration released the Epstein documents over several months, with much of the content redacted.
The price referenced by Greene in her post refers to the sharp rise in fuel prices in the US since the Iran war broke out.
In response to the Pentagon’s release of the secret UFO documents, Trump welcomed the move. He even took a swipe at previous US administrations, which he called non-transparent on such matters.
“While previous administrations failed to be transparent on this issue, with these new documents and videos, the public can decide for themselves, ‘WHAT REALLY HAPPENED?’” Trump stated in his comments.
What is Contained in the UFO Documents Released by the Pentagon?
As reported by AFP on Saturday (9/5), more than 160 secret documents were released on the Pentagon’s official website, with UFO officially referred to as “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena” or UAP. One document from December 1947 contains a series of reports about “flying saucers”.
“Ongoing and current reports from qualified observers regarding this phenomenon continue to make this a matter of concern to Headquarters, Air Materiel Command,” reads an excerpt from the document.
Another document contains a US Air Force intelligence report, marked “top secret”, from November 1948, including information on sightings of “unidentified aircraft” and “flying saucers”.
“For some time, we have been concerned with repeated reports of flying saucers,” states one of the released US documents.
Another document summarises statements from seven US federal government employees who separately reported “several unidentified anomalous phenomena” in US territory in 2023.
“The credibility of the reporters, and the anomalous nature of the events themselves – combine to make these reports some of the most compelling in AARO’s current collection,” reads the document’s description, referring to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office at the Pentagon.
In one incident, according to the US documents, three teams of federal law enforcement special agents independently described “seeing an orange ‘orb’ in the sky emitting/launching smaller red ‘orbs’”.
In another incident, two federal special agents witnessed a “glowing orange orb… perched near the top of a rock”. The report includes an illustration of a red-orange circle with a yellow line in the bottom third.
The object was described as appearing “similar to the Eye of Sauron from Lord of the Rings, except without the pupil”.
The secret documents were released after Trump, in February, instructed US federal agencies to begin identifying government files related to UFOs and aliens. At the time, Trump described the step as “based on the tremendous interest shown”.
Despite the release of these US secret documents, no evidence has yet been produced regarding life beyond Earth.
