Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has confirmed that the core tax administration system, Coretax, has become increasingly sophisticated. According to him, all taxpayer transactions will be fully recorded by Coretax, meaning that every accompanying tax obligation will also be automatically detected. ‘Coretax can now capture where transactions go, where payments are made, everything. So later, when filling in the annual tax return, everything will be visible automatically,’ Purbaya said during a press conference at his office in Jakarta on Tuesday (21/7/2026). Purbaya stated that one of the system’s designs is to prevent tax evasion. He stressed that taxpayers can no longer deceive the government in fulfilling their tax obligations. ‘In my view, that is more terrifying; you can no longer cheat, the tax office, Coretax, will find out when you transact,’ he said. The Coretax system has now connected all financial transaction activities of taxpayers, both in financial institutions and cryptocurrency. Director General of Taxes Bimo Wijayanto has officially issued a circular allowing tax authorities to obtain access to financial information from crypto asset service providers, no longer limited to financial institutions such as banks. The provision is contained in Circular Letter Number SE-9/PJ/2026 concerning Procedures for Requesting Information and/or Evidence in the Context of Accessing Financial Information for Taxation Purposes. ‘The Director General of Taxes is authorised to obtain access to financial information for taxation purposes from financial institutions and/or crypto asset service providers reporting under the Crypto Asset Reporting Framework (PJAK Pelapor CARF),’ the circular stated.
