All Subdistricts in Tapteng Submerged by Flooding After Heavy Rain, Bridge Severed
Central Tapanuli (Tapteng) Regent Masinton Pasaribu has reported that flooding has struck all subdistricts in Tapteng following heavy rainfall. In addition, road access and a bridge have been severed.
"Flooding in all subdistricts — the rain was widespread," said Masinton, as quoted by detikSumut on Tuesday (17/2/2026).
Masinton said the flooding on Monday (16/2) evening inundated residents' homes. Several rivers also overflowed their banks. He noted that thus far there have been no casualties from the flooding.
"The rivers overflowed — the Aek Sirahar River in Barus — villages were flooded again. For now, there are still no fatalities. What we have are inundated homes, further damage, and then road access and a bridge severed in the Badiri area," he explained.
Masinton said his administration is coordinating with the military and police to assist with the evacuation of residents, particularly in areas prone to flooding and landslides as well as along riverbanks. He has also instructed his staff to set up communal kitchens and prepare equipment for evacuating residents.
"We are coordinating with the military, police and PLN [state electricity company] to ensure that electricity is switched off in vulnerable areas, and we have generators prepared. We are also carrying out evacuations in areas prone to flooding and landslides, and along river corridors," he concluded.
