All DPR Commission III Factions Back Police Anti-Corruption Corps in Coal Corruption Probe
The House of Representatives’ Commission III has declared its support for the National Police’s Anti-Corruption Corps (Kortas Tipikor) in investigating an alleged corruption case concerning coal supply fulfilment. All factions within Commission III backed the law enforcement effort.
The support was conveyed during a press conference attended by all Commission III factions at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (9/7/2026). Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman led the press conference.
“We have all agreed, all factions, to hold this press conference today and we wish to convey our response regarding the law enforcement situation in recent days,” Habiburokhman stated.
“Commission III of the DPR RI appreciates and supports the National Police’s Kortas Tipikor in enforcing the law to eradicate corruption in the coal corruption case,” he added.
Habiburokhman said the case must be investigated thoroughly within a precise legal corridor. Commission III will oversee the case to ensure it proceeds according to the law.
“Coal corruption not only causes very significant state financial losses but also results in power outages in several regions, causing hardship for the public and certainly bringing economic losses and other impacts to the community,” he said.
President Prabowo’s Attention
Police are currently conducting a series of law enforcement actions related to several cases. One of these involved a search of a café in Cipete linked to multiple cases, including the alleged coal corruption that caused blackouts in Sumatra.
Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budhi Hermanto, stated that the search was conducted jointly with the National Police’s Kortas Tipikor. He noted that the case has received the direct attention of President Prabowo Subianto.
“This is related to the alleged corruption in the PLN coal blackout, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel. This is the President’s attention for the Police to uncover and investigate these alleged corruption cases,” Budhi said in Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7).
Head of the National Police’s Kortas Tipikor, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that the case is being handled as a joint investigation with the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate. He mentioned that the cases are linked to alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered blackouts, the ASABRI case, and the debt settlement process of PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise Krakatau Steel.
“Currently, Kortas Polri is conducting a joint investigation scheme with the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate in handling corruption and money laundering cases related to the PLN coal case, the ASABRI case from 2020 to 2025, and the alleged corruption case in the debt settlement process of PT CBS to PT KNI from 2020-2025,” he said.
Director of Special Criminal Investigation for Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Victor Dean Mackbon, further explained the two objects of the case. He stated that the search was related to alleged corruption and money laundering in the legal handling process by state officials or public servants in the PT ASABRI and Jiwasraya cases.
“First, the alleged criminal act of corruption and/or money laundering in the legal handling process by state officials or public servants in the PT ASABRI (Persero) and/or Asuransi Jiwasraya case within the jurisdiction of the Metro Jaya Police during the period of 2020 to 2025,” he explained.
