The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) has stated that all base transceiver station (BTS) telecommunications infrastructure in the Palu area, Central Sulawesi, affected by the magnitude 6.7 earthquake has been fully restored. Director of Digital Infrastructure Control at Kemkomdigi, Indra Maulana, explained that a total of 29 BTS sites affected by the earthquake had been recovered as of 19 June 2026 at 06.00 WIB. “Based on the dashboard alarm data as of 06.00 WIB on 19 June 2026, all 29 sites/BTS affected by the Palu earthquake have been successfully restored,” Indra said in a written statement to ANTARA on Friday. Meanwhile, two sites affected by power outages on the island of Java are still in the process of recovery. “With the recovery of all affected sites/BTS, the Telecommunications Monitoring Centre (PMT) together with the Radio Frequency Spectrum Monitoring Office (Balmon SFR) and the local Communication and Informatics Office (Diskominfo) will continue to monitor the quality of telecommunications services to ensure services run normally and sustainably,” Indra stated. According to reports from telecommunications operators, the disruption was caused by transmission lines and power supply being cut off due to the earthquake. The tectonic earthquake occurred on 16 June 2026 at 10.27 WIB. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) confirmed that the epicentre of the earthquake was located on land at coordinates 1.13 South Latitude and 120.23 East Longitude, precisely 42 kilometres southeast of Palu City. BMKG stated that the earthquake was shallow with a depth of 10 kilometres, but mathematical modelling results indicated that this seismic activity did not have the potential to trigger a tsunami.
