All Bodies of Adonara Clash Victims Successfully Evacuated

All bodies of the victims of a bloody clash in East Adonara, East Flores, have been successfully evacuated, including one that had been lying on the road and was finally taken to Adonara Pratama Hospital. East Flores Police Chief AKBP Adhitya Octorio Putra confirmed this and stated that the body had been taken to the mortuary for identification and a post-mortem examination (visum et repertum) following negotiations with the local leadership forum and community leaders. “The body has been successfully taken to the Pratama Hospital,” Adhitya told CNNIndonesia.com on Saturday afternoon. The body was that of a man aged around 60, a resident of Narasaosina Village, who is suspected to have died from machete wounds sustained during a clash between two youth groups on Saturday morning. “We are currently waiting for a coffin to transport and hand over the body to the family by the local leadership forum,” he said. He explained that the clash between youth groups from Lewonara Hamlet, Narasaosina Village, and Bele Hamlet, Waeburak Village, in East Adonara District resulted in three deaths. Adhitya stated that the three deceased were two residents of Narasaosina Village and one resident of Waeburak Village. Of the three victims, two have been with their families. One body, however, remained lying on the Waiburak road, in front of the Waiburak Mosque, until 2:00 p.m. local time, blocked by a crowd despite medical personnel and an ambulance being at the scene. After negotiations, the crowd finally allowed the body to be taken to the hospital. Meanwhile, the situation at the scene of the clash has gradually returned to normal. Residents have begun returning to their homes. However, dozens of heavily armed security personnel from the military and police remain on guard at the location. Separately, the Commander of the East Nusa Tenggara Police Mobile Brigade, Commissioner Afrizal Asri, said that 32 Brimob personnel from Maumere were en route to the scene. The cause of the clash is still under investigation.
