All Access to Mount Bromo Closed as Wildfire Spreads

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Agency has imposed a total closure of all tourist access to Mount Bromo to support firefighting operations, effective Saturday at 22:00 WIB. Head of the TNBTS Agency Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha stated in an official release that the decision was based on the latest field conditions, where the blaze within the Tengger Caldera is increasingly spreading. “To ensure the effectiveness of firefighting efforts, visits to Bromo from all entry points are closed,” Rudi said. Access to Mount Bromo is typically available through five entry points across four regencies: Cemorolawang in Probolinggo, Wonokitri in Pasuruan, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang, and Senduro in Lumajang. Beyond operational effectiveness, the closure also considers the safety and security of all visitors. The closure will remain in place “until an undetermined time,” he added. The TNBTS Agency confirmed that tourists who have already purchased entry tickets via the online booking application for the affected dates will be given the opportunity to reschedule their visits. Alternatively, the agency is also offering a refund option. Affected visitors will be required to complete a form provided on the online booking page. Rudi also urged all tourism service operators to temporarily cease activities within the TNBTS area. “This is for the safety, security, and collective well-being of everyone,” he said. Video footage uploaded by the agency to its official Instagram account showed flames engulfing a cliff area near the Tengger Caldera Loop Road (JLKT). In the video, an officer noted that the fire had also spread towards Mount Kursi, which remains within the national park area.
