Jakarta residents will soon have a new location for Hari Bebas Kendaraan Bermotor (HBKB), or Car Free Day (CFD). In addition to the new site, Jakarta’s CFD will also start earlier in the morning.

As compiled by detikcom on Friday (8/5/2026), the plan to add a CFD location was initially announced by DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung. He stated that Jalan HR Rasuna Said in South Jakarta will become a CFD location, in addition to Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin.

“Rasuna Said will later be prepared to become a car free day like Sudirman-Thamrin,” said Pramono at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (6/5).

Here is the latest information on Jakarta’s CFD:

New Location

The CFD at the new location will begin on Sunday (10/5). The CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said will not eliminate the CFD on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin.

“For the eastern side of Jalan HR Rasuna Said, HBKB will apply to the segment from the Simpang Jalan Gembira intersection to the Simpang Jalan Raya Casablanca intersection. Meanwhile, on the western side, it will apply to the segment from the Simpang Jalan Prof Dr Satrio intersection to the Simpang Jalan Setiabudi Utara Raya intersection,” said Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) Ujang Harmawan, as quoted by Antara on Thursday (7/5/2026).

Traffic Engineering During CFD on Rasuna Said

The DKI Dishub will also implement traffic engineering on Jalan HR Rasuna Said during the CFD. There will be six alternative routes for traffic diversion during the CFD implementation.

Here is the traffic engineering:

Public Transport Services

DKI Dishub stated that public transport services will continue to operate during the CFD on Jalan HR Rasuna Said. Transjakarta routes L13 (Puri Beta-Flyover Kuningan Express), 4D (Pulo Gadung-Kuningan), 6 (Ragunan-Galunggung), 6A (Ragunan-Balai Kota via Kuningan), 6B (Ragunan-Balai Kota via Semanggi), and 6H (Senen-Lebak Bulus) will continue to operate.

The LRT Jabodebek lines from Dukuh Atas-Harjamukti and Dukuh Atas-Jati Mulya will also continue to operate. Residents are urged to avoid those road sections during the CFD.

“Road users are urged to avoid those road sections and adjust to the traffic arrangements set, obey traffic signs, follow instructions from officers on the ground, and prioritise road safety,” he said.

New Hours for CFD

The DKI Provincial Government has also announced new hours for the CFD. The CFD implementation on Jalan HR Rasuna Said will start at 05:30 WIB until 10:00 WIB.

This start time for the CFD is earlier than the CFD on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin. Usually, the CFD starts at 06:00 WIB.

So, will the time for CFD on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin also change?

Governor Pramono plans to advance the CFD hours on Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin starting from 1 June 2026. The CFD in the Sudirman-Thamrin area will start at 05:30 WIB.

“Starting from 1 June, the car free day will be proposed to start at 05:30 in the morning. Those who want to run can run earlier,” said Pramono in the Jatinegara area, East Jakarta, on Friday (8/5).

Pramono said the change in CFD hours is intended to provide more space for the public to exercise in the morning. Pramono noted that the spirit of exercise among Jakarta residents is increasing.

Pramono also targets the revitalisation of the former monorail route area on Jalan Rasuna Said to be completed in early June. He hopes the inauguration can be held on 22 June.

“Rasuna Said hopefully will be completed in early June, inaugurated on 22 June on Jakarta’s anniversary,” he said.

He stated that CFD has become one of Jakarta’s tourist attractions. Pramono said many residents from outside Jakarta to international tourists participate in the CFD in the capital.

“Now many people from outside Jakarta, even from outside Indonesia, come specifically to Jakarta just to join the car free day,” he said.

He hopes the CFD on Jalan Rasuna Said will spark a new tourism spot. He said many tourists come to the CFD before returning to their home areas.

“And I am confident that with the opening on Rasuna Said, there will be even more tourism spots in Jakarta,” he said.
