Jakarta, VIVA – PT Biro Klasifikasi Indonesia (Persero) or BKI held the Technical Committee (KOMTEK) meeting at BKI’s head office. BKI’s Director of Classification Business Operations, Arief Budi Permana, explained that this event is part of the process to update the Classification Rules before their publication.

“The aim is to ensure alignment with industry requirements, technological developments, and national and international safety standards,” said Arief in his statement on Friday, 24 April 2026.

He added that to ensure the rule-making process is transparent, objective, and accountable, BKI involves KOMTEK as a forum representing stakeholders.

The Technical Committee plays a role in providing input, recommendations, as well as reviewing and validating draft Classification Rules and the research results that form the basis for their development.

Arief emphasised the importance of external party involvement in the Technical Rules formulation process to ensure consistent and understandable implementation by all stakeholders.

“From an operational perspective, external validation is crucial to ensure that BKI’s Technical Rules, particularly the Rules, can be applied consistently in the field, without multi-interpretations, and are usable and acceptable to all BKI stakeholders,” said Arief.

In this year’s session, KOMTEK discussed the review and validation of 13 Classification Rules that will apply starting July 2026. In addition, the session also reviewed regulatory developments and technical information related to current IMO rules, as well as research results that form the basis for new rules or amendments.

Not only that, this session also serves as a forum to identify various technical issues and final refinements before the rule publication process. This step is important to ensure that the issued rules remain relevant to technological developments, industry needs, and international and national provisions.

“Through the Technical Committee Meeting, BKI demonstrates its commitment to delivering relevant, reliable Classification Rules that meet international standards. This effort is part of BKI’s support for safety, quality, and the advancement of the national maritime industry,” he stated.

It is known that this event was attended by BKI’s Director of Classification Business Operations, Arief Budi Permana; Chair of the Indonesian Shipbuilding and Offshore Facilities Industry Association (IPERINDO), Ir. Anita Puji Utami; Chair of the Technical Committee, BKI’s VP of Research and Classification & Statutory Business Development, Fredhi Agung Prasetyo; Secretary of the Technical Committee, as well as the Director of Shipping and Seafaring from the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, Ir.
