Alibaba Releases Qwen 3.6 Plus, Flagship AI Model Capable of Coding and Autonomous Work
Alibaba Group’s subsidiary, Alibaba Cloud, has released its latest flagship artificial intelligence (AI) model, Qwen 3.6 Plus. Unlike typical AI that merely responds to commands, Qwen 3.6 Plus is developed to promote more autonomous AI usage, known as agentic AI. This ranges from understanding problems, planning solutions, to executing tasks automatically. With this approach, the AI can complete work in a single workflow, without needing constant guidance. From comprehending instructions, formulating plans, to delivering results. Qwen 3.6 Plus is also focused on coding. The model can assist in the software development process from start to finish, from planning, writing code, testing, to refining the output. Moreover, this AI is said to handle large-scale projects such as application or repository-based system development, not just small code snippets. Qwen 3.6 Plus also possesses multimodal capabilities. This means the AI can understand various types of input, from text, images, documents, to videos. Its abilities extend beyond merely recognising images, but also analysing and making decisions based on visual information. For example, reading complex documents, understanding interface displays, or analysing real-world conditions. The model is even claimed to be able to convert visual designs, such as screenshots or sketches, into ready-to-use frontend code. Alibaba emphasises that Qwen 3.6 Plus is designed for practical use in the business world. The model is optimised to be stable and accurate in performing complex tasks, such as data analysis, work automation, to AI-based inspections. Qwen 3.6 Plus will also be integrated into Alibaba’s ecosystem, including the Wukong enterprise platform and the Qwen Chat application. Additionally, the model is compatible with various popular coding tools, allowing it to be directly used in developers’ workflows, as compiled by KompasTekno from Alibaba Cloud’s official page. The launch of Qwen 3.6 Plus coincides with Google’s move to release the Gemma 4 AI model. This allows anyone to use, modify, and develop it freely. Developers and companies can utilise it without many restrictions, including for business needs. This step is quite interesting as it occurs at a time when several Chinese AI companies, including Alibaba with its latest Qwen model, are beginning to limit open access to their models. The tech giant headquartered in Mountain View, California, is instead taking the opposite direction. Google is opening access to the Gemma 4 model, described as one of the most advanced in its line, while adopting technology from Gemini research. As an ‘AI brain’, Gemma 4 can assist with various tasks, from answering questions, creating writing, understanding images, to aiding in coding.
