Alibaba highlights furniture, food, and agricultural products as Indonesia's leading export commodities

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The e-commerce platform Alibaba.com highlights several of Indonesia’s leading commodities in the international market, including furniture, food, and agricultural products.

Head of South and Southeast Asia at Alibaba.com, Roger Luo, stated that in the past year, the number of new Indonesian exporters joining the platform has increased by more than 30% compared to the previous year.

“This shows that more and more Indonesian SMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) are actively expanding into the global market through Alibaba.com, and this trend continues to grow rapidly,” Roger said during a media gathering in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

Furniture accounts for over 20% of exports on the platform, with food and beverages contributing more than 10%, followed by clothing and accessories at around 10%. Meanwhile, agricultural products, chemicals, and home and garden equipment each contribute about 5%.

According to Roger, this data reflects the diversity of Indonesia’s domestic industries while demonstrating the increasing supply capacity and competitiveness of Indonesia in the global supply chain.

Furthermore, he noted that the main markets for Indonesian exporters on Alibaba.com are dominated by the United States and Europe, both in terms of the number of buyers and transaction values. However, the ASEAN region has shown significant market growth in recent times.

Recognising Indonesia’s export potential, Alibaba.com continues to strengthen its investments in Indonesia, including through localisation strategies to help more businesses leverage digital technology in their export activities.

“Our goal is for more suppliers from Indonesia to be known worldwide. Indonesian products offer high value for money, good quality, and excellent service as well,” said Roger.
