Ali Wardhana

Correction: One line was missing from the last paragraph of
the second column in the article titled "Towards a free trade
nation (2)" by former economics minister Ali Wardhana on this
page of Oct. 24 edition. Below we rerun the whole paragraph and
put the missing line in bold:

We cannot prematurely reject natural resource-intensive and
labor-intensive industries as we lay the groundwork for the skill
and capital-intensive industries of the future. We must continue
to support these industries for two reasons. First, they are a
vital source of foreign exchange, accounting for almost one-half
of non-oil exports, and for nearly two-thirds of export growth
during Repelita V. High-technology industries, on the other hand,
contribute very little to our net foreign exchange earnings and
they are unlikely to do so for some time to come.

We apologize for the error.
