Iran’s Supreme National Security Council chief Ali Larijani said that a series of air strikes launched by Iran against a number of United States military facilities in the Middle East has killed more than 500 U.S. troops. Larijani has said that Iran is prepared to engage in a long-running war with the United States.

In a post on his official X account on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, Larijani said that Trump, influenced by the folly of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has dragged the American people into an unfair war with Iran. ‘Now he must count—with more than 500 American soldiers killed in just a few days, is America still the priority—or Israel,’ Larijani wrote.

He stressed that Iran’s resistance to the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will continue. ‘This story will continue. The martyrdom of Imam Khamenei will exact a high price from you. Insha’Allah,’ he said.

So far, the Pentagon has announced only six U.S. service members killed since Iran began its air strikes on Saturday, 28 February 2026. Four of them were killed in Kuwait.

The United States and Israel carried out a joint airstrike against several areas of Iran, including the capital Tehran, last Saturday. In addition to several top Iranian defence officials, the attack also killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
