Ali Khamenei's funeral procession scheduled for late June

Tehran (ANTARA) - The funeral procession for the late Iranian leader Ali Khamenei is likely to be held in late June or early July, according to Tehran Mayor Alireza Zakani on Friday.

“The funeral procession for the leader, who fell as a martyr, will be held after the first ten days of Muharram (starting 16 June) and will take place during the second ten days of that month,” said Zakani, as quoted by the Iranian news channel, SNN.

Previously, the office of the Iranian leader’s administration stated that the farewell ceremonies for Ali Khamenei would be held after the first ten days of the month of Muharram.

Tehran Deputy Mayor Mohammad Amin Tavakkoli-Zadeh stated that the farewell ceremonies for Ali Khamenei will be held in three cities—Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad—and will last for three days.

Ali Khamenei passed away following a joint attack by the United States and Israel in Tehran on 28 February.

The farewell ceremonies could not be conducted earlier because the attacks continued throughout March, leading authorities to decide to postpone the event.

Ali Khamenei will be buried in his birthplace, Mashhad, in north-eastern Iran.

Following the death of Ali Khamenei, his son, Mojtaba Khamermenei, was selected as the new Supreme Leader of Iran.

Mojtaba has not yet appeared in public since being appointed as Iran’s Supreme Leader. However, Mojtaba has issued several statements to the Iranian people which have been published by official Iranian media.
